Kit Hill, LMHC

Hi, I’m Kit!

Aloha, my name is Kit Hill and I am a licensed mental health counselor in Hawai’i. I’ve been
working in the mental health field in Hawai’i since 2011. When I was younger, I took a “helpful
talk”, I was nervous about my lisp (speech impediment) and I had hoped that I could overcome
the nervousness. I wanted to help myself, and then I realized I wanted to help others. I want to
offer a sanctuary for others to be heard, just as someone offered a place for me to be heard.

I work mostly online via telehealth. I work with older adolescents and adults who are looking
for help with anger management, anxiety, and addressing their response to trauma. I spent
some years working with men incarcerated in prisons and detention centers, where part of my
job, was to help many of those men focus on their mental wellness, managing their anger and
learn coping skills.

My focus is on empowering you and helping you regain a sense of worth. I use active listening,
modeling, and awareness techniques to help you become aware of what isn’t working for you. I
teach breathing techniques, I encourage the use of coping devices. I strive to create a safe space
where you feel empowered, relaxed, and open to finding solutions that may help you.

I strive to work as a team: you come to the sessions with expert knowledge of your life, and I
come armed with professional training and experience. Together we design an action plan with
achievable goals and effective strategies. This takes time and trust in my expertise, as well as
trust in your ability to change your life. I look forward to working with you.

What I’m working Towards

In my free time, I like to practice and lead yoga, hike in the forest, and work in my garden. I
grew sunflowers after my cancer diagnosis and treatment a few years ago. Sunflowers for me
represent hope and I am fascinated by the bees that buzz among the flowers.
